Northern Senior League Div 2 – Bredon 2 Stonehouse Town 2
Man Of The Match Peter Ockwell inspired the Magpies to a remarkable recovery after going 2-0 down with less than 30 minutes to go. First Mike Ashenhurst converted after a huge punt upfield by goalie Will Pedrick, and then Peter himself scored the equaliser in the very last minute, after Dave Ashenhurst and Luke Ockwell combined to head on a Sean Bailey corner. Manager Mitch Fussell was delighted with his team’s comeback, highlighting the midfield contribution of Peter and Tim Williams in particular as well as praising the resilience of his team to come back with a fine performance after the frustrations of losing in the last minute last week.
Stroud League Div 3 - Stonehouse Town 2nds 8 Trident 0
The Magpies’ reserves made it 6 wins out of their last 6 games with this excellent performance, inflicting on Trident their worst defeat in the visitors’ history. Jamie Dean marked his final performance before leaving for the armed forces with a Man Of The Match performance, laying on goals for Alex Davis, Wayne Farrugia and Rob Ind, as well as scoring a fine goal following a fine solo run. Danny Harkins and Brendan Murray combined to set up Alex Davis’s second, and Farrugia himself laid on exquisite passes for Brendan Murray and Rob Ind to score. The final goal was finished by top scorer Nick Humphreys after more good work by Farrugia. Manager Haydn Murray has engineered a remarkable turnaround in the team’s performances, from bottom of the table after 3 games into a promotion chasing outfit. The match was expertly refereed by veteran Michael Smith.
Stroud League Div 8 – Hardwicke 3rds 6 Stonehouse 4ths 2
Having twice come from behind with goals from top scorer Matt Porter and from Ross Linley, his 3rd goal in 3 games, the Magpies then missed the chance to establish a lead when Matt Porter’s penalty kick was brilliantly saved by the Hardwicke keeper early in the second half. Buoyed by their let off, the home side swarmed all over the Magpies for the rest of the game and thumped 4 goals without reply. Only the outstanding work of Sam Birch in midfield, and Man Of The Match Jimmy Doyle in defence, prevented this from being an even more one-sided affair, with ‘rookie’ goalkeeper Rob Gowen forced to pull off a number of saves to keep the score down.
